Safety improvements to Tomakin Road

Eurobodalla Council is working to improve safety on Tomakin Road east of Mogo Zoo.

The $231,000 project, fully-funded by the NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program, is improving sections of the road between the George Bass Drive intersection and Mogo Zoo.

The work involves widening sealed road shoulders, providing expanded clear zones along the road, installing curve advisory speed signs and associated stormwater improvements.

Council’s Infrastructure Services Director Warren Sharpe OAM said this stretch of road was the site of previous traffic crashes.

“The work will not only reduce the risk for drivers and their passengers, the sealed road shoulders will also allow for safer on-road travel by cyclists,” he said.

“It is part of our ongoing road reconstruction program to improve and maintain the local road network for current and future generations.”

Mr Sharpe said some trees and vegetation was being removed as part of the work.

“The work includes removal of some trees to help keep our community safe by providing a clear zone on the side of the road and allowing the widening to occur,” he said.

“We’re also taking the opportunity to re-use earthworks material from Tomakin Road to help make safety improvements east of the Dunns Creek Road intersection at the same time. This effectively sees double the road safety benefits to our community, with minimal extra costs.”

The work east of the Dunns Creek Road intersection is almost complete. The work on a 340-metre stretch between Dunns Creek Road and Mogo Zoo is expected to be complete by the end of May 2018.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during work hours. Council encourages motorists to allow extra time when travelling through the area during peak periods, with delays expected.

Motorists are also asked to take extra care around the work and to follow traffic control and speed limit signs.
