Volunteer gave 54 years

Catalina resident Ruth McPhee has celebrated 54 years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Last week saw Ruth retire from her role as a packer with Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels.

To mark the occasion the Hon Andrew Constance (MP for Bega) and Mayor Councillor Liz Innes surprised Ruth at the Community Centre when they came to say thank you.

Both gave a small presentation to Ruth and congratulated her on her wonderful work.

Ruth commented that back in 1965 when she started meals were delivered very differently to how it is done today. She noted that there had been many changes.

Helping others is a wonderful thing and Mr Constance said that many people, more than just those who had received the meals, had been touched by Ruth’s kindness and generosity of time.

Mr Constance presented Ruth with a Community Award acknowledging her service to others.

Mayor Liz Innes thanked Ruth on behalf of the community and also made a presentation of a piece of art from an indigenous local.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels Manager thanked Ruth and said she could now put her feet up after a wonderful display of community service.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels, on behalf of the various meals organisations Ruth has helped, thanks her for her time, passion, energy but most of all for her commitment to others.

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
