Council’s code of conduct on public exhibition until Mar 19th

Eurobodalla Council is seeking community feedback on two documents pertaining to its code of conduct.

Councillors on Tuesday agreed to place on public exhibition the NSW Government’s 2018 Model Code of Conduct for Local Councils in NSW (Code of Conduct) and Procedures for the Model Code of Conduct for Councils in NSW (Procedures). Both documents will be on public exhibition from Wednesday 20 February until Tuesday 19 March 2019.

Updated Code of Conduct and Procedures documents were prescribed for NSW councils under the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 on 14 December 2018. Council has until Friday 14 June 2019 to adopt a Code of Conduct and Procedures compliant with the model documents.

The Code of Conduct and Procedures documents include new rules about accepting gifts, disclosure requirements for councillors and designated persons, and the management of complaints made against the code. The model code and procedures cannot be changed, only added to.

Following public exhibition, the documents will again be presented to councillors, along with any community submissions, for their reconsideration and adoption.

The Code of Conduct and Procedures documents will be available to view in the Narooma, Moruya and Batemans Bay libraries or on Council’s website at www.esc.nsw.gov.au/publicexhibition, from Wednesday 20 February.

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand.
