$4m spent and not a sod turned: The wheels of Council's bus are becoming wobbly

The Beagle editor, The wheels of Council's bus will soon be falling off as more and more is being exposed of how they have failed to manage the Mackay Park swimming pool project to date.

Opinion: The shire's councillor bus is fast loosing community confidence as it approaches the "White Elephant" that will become a major election issue for Mayor Innes and the others should they proceed with forcing their concepts on the community without revealing true costs and projected losses.

It is now revealed that it is going to take considerably more money to provide the foundations for the new centre. All they had to do to save all that grief was to look across the road at the Village Centre and see how much money went into establishing foundations into the sand there. They were warned long ago that the Mackay Park land has major issues and with a increasing water table from the projected sea level rise of roughly a metre their foundations had better be over designed for the next eighty years. How much will that cost Madam Mayor?

I have taken a lot of interest in the Batemans Bay Swimming Pool Come Aquatic, and Performing Arts Centre. The information being provided to shire's residents is very selective, and not allowing those interested in the planned project to make fully informed judgements particularly in relation to any sort of believable business plan, and future annual ratepayer subsidy's.

Doing away with the Mini Golf, a genuine family asset, is in my opinion a particularly backward step for the area.

A lot of misinformation has been circulated by council and councillors about the concept plans.

The misinformation circulated by councillors ad the council about the acquisition of the Bowling Club Site and its community value has been appalling.

Council, in my opinion, needs to stop and reconsider where it thinks it is going with the concept. At the present time it shouldn’t be supported in any of the concept forms being presented even if a new concept “D” is generated by council staff involved. The community can’t afford the ongoing liabilities that will be associated with the presents ideas. More genuine community involvement is needed if Council is to Move Forward with it all, taking the community with it. Election promises are the down fall with concept plans and councillor statements.
