Eurocoast Triathlon Club represented across the country


Eurocoast Triathlon Club members were spread far and wide last weekend, with club members racing at Jervis Bay and also in South Australia.

At the Elite Energy Triathlon Festival at Callala Beach, Sally Jeffrey was again the class athlete of the club. Sally competed in the Sprint Race (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run), won her age category (60-64) and finished 7th female overall. Sally completed the swim leg in 14:14, the bike leg in 41:58, and the run leg in 22:13, for an overall race time of 1:20:41. Second place was more than 15 minutes behind Sally.

Adrian Connor competed in the same distance, and finished with a race time of 1:19:26. This place Adrian 6th in his age group (45-49), and he had times of 13:55, 38:54 and 24:20 for the individual legs. Stephen Phipps also raced at this distance, and finished the course in 1:27:27, placing him second in his age group (55-59). Stephen’s splits were 14:41 for the swim, 42:09 for the bike, and 26:54 for the run leg.

Husband and wife team of Paul and Maureen Searson competed in the Aqua-bike event, comprised of a 1.5km swim and 40km bike leg. They won their category, finishing with a swim time of 34:43 and a bike time of 1:45:39.

Ivo Ahlquist (above) elected to race in the Moana Beach triathlon, held just south of Adelaide. Ivo also competed in a sprint distance event (750m swim/20km bike/5km run) and he placed 4th in his age group (40-44) and an impressive 37th overall. Ivo’s race splits were 13:55 (swim), 35:27 (bike) and 20:03 (run) for a total race time of 1:11:23. Ivo was second fastest in the run leg for his age group, and 24th out of some 200 competitors.

Club members will wind down over the Christmas period, but training will be ongoing in preparation for next years events including the Sprint and Super Sprint races at Kurnell on 12 January, and the next local event to be held at Nowra on 19 January.
