Councillor Disruption at Bay Chamber Christmas party

An otherwise celebratory Chamber meeting followed by Christmas drinks was disrupted by a Eurobodalla Councillor standing outside of the venue protesting that she had been barred from attending. It was reported just hours after the party from various attendees that the Chamber had specifically written to Council executives and Councillors requesting that they not attend the meeting as there were particular items on the agenda for discussion that would have been somewhat restricted in openness had Council staff of Councillors been in attendance It has been widely acknowledged that there has been a breakdown in communication and a deterioration in the relationship between the Council and the Batemans Bay Chamber over recent years which is becoming a concern for the Chamber who would prefer a more amicable relationship with the Council's Executive team and Mayor. It has been openly discussed in the Beagle that there are real concerns held by many businesses in the Batemans Bay CB area in light of the upcoming and serious disruptions that will result from the construction around the CBD that will require Council to take on the very real concerns of the Chamber and to react to those concerns with an empathy and to do so in a timely way. The financial consequences of the Clyde, North and Orient Street streetscaping projects and the overruns in completion are still being felt by many traders. The meeting, due to start at 6pm was delayed as a lone Councillor stood outside the venue loudly protesting to anyone who might listen that she was denied entry. Council Executives and Councillors were not invited to the meeting. With Christmas spirit and good will the Councillor was later invited in after the meeting had closed though it is understood by those the Beagle spoke to that there was disappointment in her on-the-street loud shouting, especially as she was a well recognised Councillor and also knowing that Councillors had specifically NOT been invited.
