Tomakin Spit Work begins Dec 3rd

Tomakin Community Association advise that 🚧 Spit work begins next week!!!

"Council crew is booked in for the week of the 3rd December. "The work will involve repairing and extending the fencing along the ridge line to prevent access at random spots along the spit. The idea is people will use the existing tracks at either end of the fence line to access between the beach and the river. "Some revegetation with dune plants and installation of coir fibre logs in the ‘blown out’ areas on the river side of the spit will help to retain the bank and signage will be installed directing people to use the tracks."

"These works are approved actions from the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for the Tomaga River Estuary.

"The Estuary Program has only recently received its funding. This is the first state government funding since early 2015 so we are now in a great position to start implementing some of the bigger actions from the CZMP. We have been undertaking the ongoing weed control and recently had contractors removing Bitou bush and other weeds from the spit and other foreshore reserves throughout Tomakin. "These weed control works will be continuing over the next 3 years."
