Batemans Bay Orchid and Foliage Society Winter orchid Show July 20th and 21st

The Batemans Bay Orchid and Foliage Society is holding the first of their three (3) annual shows this weekend in the auditorium of the Soldiers Club, Beach Road Batemans Bay. Entry is free.

The Winter Show is from 10am to 6pm on Friday 20th July and from 10am until 3pm on Saturday 21st July. Presentations of awards and drawing of the lucky door prize and a multi prize raffle start at 3pm on Saturday.

The show will display the multiple genre of orchids that grow in this area. However, the cymbidium will most likely be the feature plant. There are usually upwards of 150 plants on display. These beautiful flowering plants give off a wonderful perfume within this room. The range of shapes and sizes of these plants always amaze members of the public.

There will also be a display set up on a table near the front door. This will be set up to a theme. Last year the themes included Teddy’s Bears picnic, tea party and the native show had an aboriginal theme. Come along and see what the theme for this show will be.

Judging happens on the Thursday evening so the lucky winners will have their orchids identified by cards and ribbons on the display tables as well as the champions table.

As usual, there will be a sales table with both flowering and non-flowering orchids as well as Orchid possies.

There will be a potting demonstration at 1pm both days. Club members are also on hand to answer any questions visitors may have.

The Spring show is held on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September and the Native Show on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October. These shows are also in the Auditorium at the Soldiers Club in Batemans Bay and are open from 10am to 6pm on the Fridays and 10am to 3pm on the Saturdays.

The Batemans Bay Orchid and Foliage Society meets on the first Monday of the month (except January) in the Soldiers Club. Benching is from 6.30pm, judging from 7pm with a general meeting starting at 7.30pm. The majority of the meetings will have a guest speaker discussing orchids in some way.
