Bay Tigrettes roar at Mackay Park

What a marvellous day on Sunday for the Tigerettes at Mackay Park. First duty of the day was to take on Tathra Sea Eagles. Batemans Bay started extremely well with all girls following the game plan laid out by Coach Wright. His focus was to switch on immediately from the ref's whistle which they did. The Tigerettes had a focus of minimising mistakes and completing sets. The girls achieved these goals and threw the ball around freely, running the Tathra girls all around the park . Tigerettes charged to an 18 nil lead, led by Captain Sheree Meyn. They then had a lapse of concentration and allowed Tathra in for 2 quick tries just before half time. After a rest,a drink and a talk from Coach Wright, the girls went on with the quality play from the first half and finished with a conclusive win 38 - 10. Players player for Tigerettes was Holly Bruce, strongly supported by Emily Brennan and Renee Coubrough. The second game was a torrid affair against Cooma Fillies. Once again Coach Wright instructed the girls to play mistake free football, complete their sets and maintain field position. This was an intense game played at speed, with passion and pride from both teams demonstrating great skills. Both teams went to the half time break at nil all, but Tigerettes holding a slight advantage as Cooma girls showed their frustration. At the resumption of play, tempers began to fray and in what is supposed to be a non contact sport, the Cooma girls began to push, shove and sledge. Batemans Bay maintained focus and when needed met push with push and sledge with sledge. Unfortunately Captain Meyn was given a rest in the sinbin after a sledging match. Tigerettes played one girl down with restraint and purpose and eventually scored to take the lead. When Meyn returned the Tigerettes continued to play with discipline and ran away with the game 16 pts to 0. In the dying seconds of the game a Cooma player began a push and shove with Tigerettes Captain and a minor fracas occured. The Cooma girl hadn't counted on the strong support from the Tigerettes including Renee Coubrough, sister of the Bay Captain. Best for the Tigerettes was Captain Meyn, Coubrough Czubara ,Laverack and Christensen, but Coach Wright stated that it was an awesome team, displaying awesome team spirit and commitment. The Tigerettes get a well earned break this coming weekend, but will probably appear at Moruya to support the Men against the arch rivals this Saturday.
