NSW & ACT Association of Family History Societies Inc Annual Conference at Batemans Bay Soldiers


The NSW & ACT Association of Family History Societies Inc is so pleased to announce that this year’s Annual Conference is being held in Batemans Bay at the Soldiers’ Club from the 14 to 16 September 2018. The early bird registrations are now open.

However briefly the programme is over three days – Friday is the family history fair. The fair is open to the general public for free. There will be a series of 10 workshops in two streams, one stream is only available for conference registrants at a small charge. There will be an extensive range of trade tables, included many member societies from within the State, as well as representatives from NSW Births Deaths & Marriages Registrar; the State Archives & Records Authority of NSW; FamilySearch; Ancestry; Joy Murrin and Marilyn Rowan – the transcription agents; Biographical Dictionary of Australia; Ryerson Index together with Australian Cemetery Index as well as many other groups with products to impress and dazzle. There is still limited opportunities to book a trade table.

Saturday and Sunday is the full conference for registrants.

The keynote speaker is Cora Num – the renowned, knowledgeable and very popular genealogist. She will deliver the John Crowe Memorial Address.


Above: At the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations Congress held in Sydney during March 2018, Cora was awarded the Meritorious Service Award. This was in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the world of genealogy and family history as a presenter, author and contributor in Australia and world wide. Complementing Cora are speakers covering many topics ranging from updates from NSW Births,Deaths & Marriages Registrar, Trove, Ancestry, Bushrangers of the Eurobodalla, Family Search and helpful research techniques, all detailed are on the website. For all the family historians on the South Coast this is a golden opportunity to hear some inspiring speakers, attend their workshops/presentations, learn of the amazing new developments in the cyber world, browse the book stalls for current publications or that old book long out of print, talk to the experts or someone from another society where your ancestor came from. For many of the regulars, the conference is the time to catch up with old friends. Social events for conference registrants, will be a river cruise on Thursday night, the traditional Meet & Greet Friday night and the Conference Dinner Saturday night. There will also be a raffle on Friday and the monster raffle at the Conference Dinner.
