Save Albert Ryan Park on a history plaque

The Beagle Editor, I read your bit about Albert Ryan Park and here are my thoughts.

For many years Albert Ryan Park in Batemans Bay has been curiously talked about, some of the town's older folk know it as crack another tinny park. Much of the Batemans Bay area's history has been lost to new developments similar to what occurred with the Batemans Bay Marina redevelopment and the old Perry Mill Site redevelopment that now has units and underground car parking. I think Albert Ryan park has the potential to become a terrific redevelopment site accommodating living or seniors living. Put a path in to the CBD and it would be perfect. Albert Ryan park's history could be recorded with plaques on the walkway cycleway opposite. There is modern public toilet facilities and vehicle parking just along Beach Rd a few hundred metres away at the recently redeveloped marina. The park grassed area near them next to the sea wall could be up graded to accommodate a barbeque and covered seating areas and the walkway cycleway improved to follow the water around the Spinnaker Reach buildings. The supporters tying to save Albert Ryan Park have put some considerable effort into their thoughts but perhaps the historic recognition of the Albert Ryan Park area can be achieved by recording the history with appropriately placed plaques and photos as we see in our National Parks ?.

Just a thought ! Name and address supplied
