Festival offers Foodies’ delights

Foodies will love watching some of the country’s biggest name chefs in action at Narooma Oyster Festival on Saturday 5 May.

‘The Festival’s cooking demonstrations have become so popular, this year we’ll have a bigger tent and an extended programme to accommodate the growing interest from both chefs and foodies,’ said Festival spokeperson Cath Peachey.

‘We’ll have a stellar line-up of some of Sydney’s finest seafood chefs together with some of the best chefs in our region. NSW’s south coast has never seen a more distinguished group of chefs sharing their culinary skills and recipes in such a relaxed and approachable way.

‘What’s attracted them to Narooma is the unique experience the Oyster Festival offers. The reputation of the south coast’s oysters, seafood and other produce from such a clean and green environment is growing fast, and it’s a chance for these chefs to spend some time with local producers, visit farms and chat with Festival visitors.’

The line-up of chefs is like a who’s who of fine food, many of them award winners. Each will prepare one dish.

  • Corey Costelloe, Executive Chef at Rockpool Bar and Grill

  • Stephen Hodges, formerly of Fish Face and co-author of the seafood ‘bible’,

  • Colin Barker, Executive Chef at The Boathouse at Blackwattle Bay

  • Nick Gardner, now of Hampden Deli Dining and School in Kangaroo Valley

  • Wade and Evan Woolhouse of Wheelers Seafood Restaurant at Pambula.

The programme will also feature 2018 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show Champions – Erica Dibden of Tilba Real Dairy who will demonstrate butter making, and the artisan ice cream maker Joe Taranto from Bodalla Dairy.

Guiding the demonstrations will be MC Kelly Eastwood, now of Eastwood’s Deli and Cooking School at Bermagui, who has been a food stylist on many TV shows including River Cottage Australia.

The Oyster Festival’s cooking demonstrations start at 10.15am on Saturday 5 May and go through to 3.30pm.
