More Choice And Greater Flexibility For Learner Riders

From March 2nd 2018, learner motorcycle riders in NSW can book direct with a rider training course provider and at a location and time they choose.

Roads and Maritime Services said motorcycle training course provision has been changed in NSW to provide learner riders more choice and greater flexibility when booking a course.

“Roads and Maritime recently made changes to the way learners book their motorcycle training courses,” the spokesperson said.

“From today, learner riders will book direct at any of 18 rider training centres in Sydney or regional towns.

“It’s the first time riders have had the option to book their preferred location, rather than being directed to the nearest provider according to their post code.

“And as they now have direct access to the provider, they can call ahead to discuss and plan their training needs.”

Five companies provide all pre-learner and pre-provisional rider training in NSW – HART, Stay Upright, Wheel Skills, Fineline and Revolution Rider Training.

HART has a training facility in St Ives and Stay Upright has training centres at Botany, Clyde, Rouse Hill, Campbelltown, Penrith, Loftus, Bomaderry, Bathurst and Queanbeyan.

Wheel Skills has training centres at Adamstown Newcastle, Tuggerah Central Coast, Unanderra, Coffs Harbour, Armidale, Wollongbar, Kingscliff and Tamworth. Fineline’s facility is in Taree and the Revolution Rider Training facility is in Wagga Wagga.

“Each organisation meets Roads and Maritime’s criteria for providing a safe rider learner program,” the spokesperson said.

Pre-learner and pre-provisional rider training is essential for all new riders and must be completed in order to obtain a motorcycle licence, if the rider lives close to a rider training centre.

Roads and Maritime will continue to administer the Rider Training program as part of its commitment to making our roads safer.

From Thursday 1 March, learner riders visiting Service NSW Centres will be provided the contact details for their preferred training course provider.
