Alleged Assault at Batemans Bay has 43yo man arrested

A man has been arrested over the alleged assault of an elderly woman at Batemans Bay today.

About 11.15am (Friday 2 March 2018), an 84-year-old woman was approached by a man while sitting in her vehicle in a car park on Perry Street.

It’s alleged the man repeatedly punched her to the head, causing severe lacerations, before fleeing.

A member of the public, who heard the woman scream, chased the man and held him in a staircase while emergency services were contacted.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and arrested the man.

The 43-year-old was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

The woman was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital and has since been transferred to Moruya Hospital for treatment. NSW Police
