Work Progressing Well On Princes Highway Upgrade At Dignams Creek

The Princes Highway upgrade at Dignams Creek, which started in April this year is progressing well.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance said Roads and Maritime Services is delivering the $45 million NSW Government funded upgrade to improve safety and efficiency by widening about 800 metres of the Princes Highway and building a new two kilometre section of road to current highway standards.

“The upgrade includes providing two new bridges across Dignams Creek and Dignams Creek Road,” Mr Constance said.

“Work has started on the two bridges and in the past few months other preparatory work has included moving more than 100,000 cubic metres of earthworks which is equivalent to 40 Olympic size swimming pools.

“A temporary road is being built at the northern end of the project to allow for building activities in this area. For around the next six months all traffic will be diverted to this road which is around 800 metres long.”

“Recently completed work includes four sediment basins to help with water quality control, all drainage work across the project and clearing rehabilitation and vegetation activities.”

Mr Constance said major activity on the project including major earthwork activities will continue, a large fauna crossing underneath the highway will be installed to provide a connection with the national parks, and the start of safety upgrade work at the southern-end of the project site.

“During this work changed traffic conditions will continue for the safety of all motorists and workers on the project,” Mr Constance said.

“I would thank all motorists for their patience during construction, and remind those travelling along the Princes Highway to allow those few extra minutes in travel time.”

The upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-2019, weather permitting.
