It's Learn to Swim Week - but NOT in the Eurobodalla

Saving Children’s Lives. As this week is “Learn to Swim Week” in Australia and New Zealand, many swimming centres are offering free swimming lessons for children under 5. Checking centres at which this offer is available reveals none within the Eurobodalla Shire. Despite the fact that school children in NSW and the ACT are currently on school holidays, and the weather is perfect for swimming, both Batemans Bay and Moruya swimming centres are closed. There is evidence that participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children aged one to four years. Statistics show that 3 out of 5 primary school children cannot swim properly. The number of participants in local school swimming carnivals provides evidence of this. Bring on the Indoor Aquatic Centre, which will be open all year round! Jennie Hapgood Batemans Bay..
