Wanted: Indoor Aquatic Centre!

The AGM of the Batemans Bay Indoor Aquatic Centre Committee (BBIAC) was held at the Catalina Country Club on Monday 21st November. President Carolyn Harding presented her annual report outlining the progress made during the year. Regular stalls are held at the Village Centre to raise awareness of the need for the aquatic centre, and to raise funds for equipment for the pool. Information stalls were set up at the recent Health and Wellness Expo at the Soldiers Club and at the Batemans Bay Swimming Pool’s 50th birthday celebrations. The BBIAC’s “Dry Swim,” held at the Hanging Rock sporting fields in August was well supported by several sporting and community groups, including Batemans Bay Swimming Club, Sailability Batemans Bay, Life Without Barriers, and Batemans Bay Rugby Club. As the event was held just before the local government elections, a number of candidates attended. The crowd enjoyed demonstrations of Tai Chi and Line Dancing, and participated in novelty swimming races. The cake stall was also popular. Members elected a new committee, including President Carolyn Harding, Secretary Pam Shields, Treasurer Dee Jones, and 7 other members. Following council’s purchase of the old Bowling Club site, members are looking forward to Council’s announcement of plans to develop the precinct, which will include a much needed Indoor Aquatic Centre!
