COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL. – The Centennial Hall on Monday was thronged with friends and admirers of Miss Winnie Johnson, the popular and pretty daughter of Mr. and Mrs C. Johnson, the object of the gathering being to present this charming lady with a token of their esteem for the manner in which she contested the seat of honor in the recent Bazaar Queen Competition. A most enjoyable social evening was spent in tripping the light fantastic. Mrs C. C. Luck and Mr. J. Buckley, assisted by Mrs S. Ryan and Miss Hasty (Sydney) discoursed sweet music, and Mr. E. Corbett kept the dancers merrily whirling in his capacity as M.C. During the evening Mr. T. Flood, on behalf of the guest’s admirers, presented her with an exquisite diamond and pearl necklet. In doing so the speaker referred to the gracious manner in which Miss Johnson had always given her assistance in charitable and patriotic work, and wished her a long and happy life. Mr. P. Flynn, who returned sincere thanks for the recipient, said that the very large assemblage that evening testified to the popularity of the young lady and was a vindication of the fair and honourable manner in which this candidate had conducted her contest. Mrs Flynn then clasped the necklet around the guest’s fair throat amidst loud and prolonged applause. “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was then enthusiastically rendered, and a lusty “Three Cheers” given. Dainty refreshments were afterwards partaken of in the adjoining supper-room. The promoters, Messrs. E. Corbett and A. Barclay, who were assisted by a number of lady friends of Miss Johnson, should be highly gratified at the result of their kindly efforts.

Extensive additions and improvements have just been completed at Mr. J. P. Hyland’s Narooma Hotel, which, being in a prominent position, looks quite palatial, and adds greatly to the beauty of the town. Great credit is due to the builder, Mr. Martin, of Cobargo, who carried out the work, and we feel sure it is not exaggerating to say that it is about the best hotel south of Sydney in appearance and position.
