Your up to date fishing report from the team at Tackle World Moruya

Moruya river. Look for the skinny! The skinny water that is. With a few days of warmer weather and sunny days, the flats areas are very slowly starting to wake up from their winter slumber. With reports that the water temps have been anywhere up to to 4degs (18 deg) warmer than the deeper sections, it’s no wonder that the flathead have started to show themselves. Soft plastics and hard body lures worked slowly with lots of twitches and pauses have managed to entice the odd lizard into biting. Live nippers pumped from the flats at low tide for the bait guys have been the bait of choice. With a full moon tonight, expect to see a lot of water movement over the next few days. This will both disperse and concentrate the fish depending on the tide. With more water pushing in on the rising tide this allows access to more areas for the fish. With less water in the system at low tide, the fish are concentrated into the deeper holes as the tide resides. Fish these deeper holes at low tide for a better than average chance at finding the fish. For those that like to explore the the top, fresher sections of the system, there have been a few bass caught. Try spinner baits, soft plastics as well as hard body lures for best effect. Fish hard up against, or even in structure to tempt these enigmatic brawlers into a tussle. Fish early if you can, to try and beat the wind that seems to spring up around 10-11am. Tuross River. Again the skinny water has been producing more fish than the deeper section in Tuross this week. There have been a few good fish found around the potato point side of the system as well as some of Tuross’ back bays. Soft plastics, hardbody lures and drifted baits have all accounted for a few reasonable fish. If front on the Tuross boat shed, the holes there, have held the odd estuary perch after dark as well as the occasional sneaky mulloway. Post floods, the river and it’s channels have changed a lot. If you haven’t been for a session recently, take your time when navigating the river in a boat this weekend. Channels that used to be there, have more than likely moved. Especially the further upstream you go. Rock and beach. Early sessions have been the most productive this last week, with those that have beaten the wind early having a more comfortable experience. There have been the odd salmon schools working the beaches and rock platforms this week. With all the popular locations having a chance at holding fish. The Moruya breakwall in the morning has held a few good fish before the wind springs up. With the swells forecast to rise Saturday to approve 2.3m, if you are planning a rock session, please scout any ledges before setting up. Although 2.3m isn’t a lot of swell, it only takes 1 bigger set to pose problems to those how aren’t being attentive. Offshore. Good numbers of flathead in the magic 30-40m depth have been reported again this week. With the odd snapper throw into the mix to keep most boaties happy. Early morning sessions before the wind comes up have been the best options. There have been a few reports of tuna up to 60kg out wide reported this week. So if game fishing is your thing, look for temperature breaks to find the bait fish, and in turn the tuna. With the school holidays now in full swing, it has been great to see so many families through the store. Be patient on the roads, as lots of people are taking the opportunity to travel down the hill and pay us a visit. Don’t forget that we are running our Zman & TT competition this month. With every $50 spent in store you will receive a ticket into the raffle that puts you in the draw for a $300 prize pack. Just ask in store if you require any details.

The photo above is of George Matthews with a nice Windamere Yellow Belly caught on a rod and reel combo he purchased from us earlier in the year. Nice fish George! Thanks for sending that in. Stay safe everyone, and remember “every days a good day for fishing....” Team Tackle World Moruya.
