Over recent years many of our locals have been recognised for their actions during the bushfires. The latest acknowledgement recognises Leanne Manning who volunteers with the RSPCA, and is involved in the assessment of surrendered animals and every week drives countless miles in her own car delivering food for the foster animals, prior to them being adopted. During the bushfires that affected the area in 2018/19, Leanne was out all day and night rescuing native and domestic animals, getting them to safety and helping to run the evacuation centre. Like many Leanne still suffers from flashbacks from the trauma she witnessed.
Now, due to the housing crisis, the ongoing impact of bushfires and the financial consequences that the pandemic has handed out to many of our locals, Leanne also visits families that live in the local camping grounds each day, providing food and medication (especially flea and tick treatments as there a lots of paralysis ticks around) for 40+ pets and food and blankets for the residents, all paid for out of her own pocket from her work as a domestic cleaner.
Recognition that is well deserved.
