In October 2020 the NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean MP was asked if he would take action to restore the six Sanctuary Zones in the Batemans Marine Park that his Liberal/National Government had scrapped.
He said “The simple answer is yes”, and went on to sing the praises of science-based decision-making.
"We're going to work with the scientists, we're going to work with the experts and we're going to make decisions based on their advice," What has happened? Absolutely nothing.
Six Sanctuary Zones remain open to fishing and the damage goes on, with no science and no consultation.
The Bega by-election is this Saturday the 12th of February. Send them a message by voting either 1 Labor, or 1 Green and 2 Labor.
It’s the only way we can ensure that the science and the will of the community is considered. Let’s keep our oceans healthy.

In November 2020 the Environment Minister, Matt Kean, publicly offered to take Bega MP Andrew Constance diving at Montague Island saying "science" will decide Batemans Marine Park no-take zones.
The NSW MP was responding to a question on sanctuary zones at the Nature Conservation Council annual conference on Saturday, October 31, held via an online platform.
He was asked if he would take 'urgent action' to fully restore no-take zones opened to recreational fishing in December, 2019.
His answer was "Well, the simple answer is 'yes'."
"We're going to work with the scientists, we're going to work with the experts and we're going to make decisions based on their advice," the Minister said.
He added that any decision must wait until the current review of no-take zones was completed, but did say "I'm going to take the same approach to marine parks as I do to climate change".
"Let's listen to the science, let's listen to the experts, and let's make policy in line with that advice," he said.
The Minister then suggested an invitation might be extended of a dive trip with Andrew Constance as part of an "environmental diplomacy" campaign to convince the Local member for Bega and his fellow Coalition members of the benefits of "environmental treasures" suggesting that such a campaign he said would not be "easy".
The question now should be asked "Where is the Minister on this pledge?" and where does the Liberal Candidate stand to restore the six Sanctuary Zones in the Batemans Marine Park.
