‘Southern NSW Local Health District, Eurobodalla Palliative Care Volunteer Service’ is now calling for community members across the Southern regions of Eurobodalla, including Narooma, Tilba, Bodalla areas as well as the Deua & Deua River Valley, to apply to become palliative care volunteers for their local community.

Palliative Care Volunteers are members of the community who are carefully selected and trained to provide support to people with life limiting illnesses, their carers and family. They can give support without judgement.

Palliative Care Volunteer support may be described as psycho-social, empathetic roles, ‘emotionally aware’ and ‘being present’. We understand that the support we provide is flexible, adjusting to the needs of the moment to reduce distress and burdens on patients and their loved ones. They may begin with reading a book to the patient, playing a game of cards or simply having a cup of tea, so that the carer can have time to run errands, attend appointments and go shopping.
