The Tuross Head Fishing Club conducted its monthly fishing competition over the past weekend.
Yet again I put a curse on the weather. Strong southerly winds blew constantly all weekend which made fishing conditions very ordinary. I thought we were in the Summer season not the middle of Winter. Members did brave the conditions with eight people registering only ten fish with only four different species.
Blackfish was our Goblet fish and was won by the Blackfish Master himself Merv Roberts. Merv managed to catch a Blackfish 36cm worth 75pts. Merv gave a couple of apprentices a Blackfishing lesson on how they are caught. We have a lot to learn.
Carry over Goblet, Pigfish was not won and will carry over till next month.
Mens Lake and Estuary winner was Merv Roberts with his 36 cm Blackfish.
Womens Lake and Estuary winner was Rachel Weatherby with a Mullet 40cm worth 74.4pts.
Mens Rock and Beach was won by Scott Westbury catching a nice sized Salmon of 50.3 cm worth 80.75pts.
Junior winner was Christopher Westbury catching a Salmon 31cm worth 49.25pts.
Mystery Fish no. 18 Sergeant Baker was not won.
Turkey of the Month was awarded to Alison Skilton who failed to net her fathers large Flathead at the side of the boat. We believe Alison had a few attempts with the net but the fish got away. Dad was not a happy man.
A big thank you to all our members who came to the Clubs Xmas party. Secret Santa was a fun event as always. We know what family likes chocolate. Big thank you to our catering staff for providing a great feed and to members for making yummy desserts.
Next Fishing Goblet competition weekend is Jan. 20th-21st 22nd . Goblet target will be Whiting.
Hopefully next year the weather will change for the better. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all our Members, Regards Neil Alexander Comp. Sec.
