Tuross Head Bowls news

Twelve teams competed in a very competitive Five A Side tournament held over two days. Each side played a total of 12 games that covered singles, pairs, triples and fours. Each format of the sport was played three times over the two days. The sides were competing for a total prize pool of $2500.

The ultimate winners were the Malua Bay side of Bess and Alan Holloway, Julie Lewis, Tim Kovacs and Tony Melrose. They won all but one of their games. The tightness of the contests is shown that they won seven of their games by a margin of 4 shots or less! Their total shots margin was plus 49. They had a clear margin over the other place getters. In second with eight wins and a draw, were another Malua Bay side of Margaret Bridges, Sonia Frey, Murray O’Bryan, Tony Giannasca and Doug Ebsworth. They scored 17 points with a margin of plus 60 shots.

Third and fourth were very close with two teams ending with 16 points after recording eight wins. The Ulladulla side of Jo and Rob Cattley, Roz and Col Jamieson and Jeanne Thompson took third place with the better margin of plus 62 shots. They relegated the Tuross team of Rita and Noel Downie, Marg Downey, Joel Hilliard and Stan Peck to fourth. They scored 16 points with a margin of plus 54 shots.

A Dalmeny/Narooma team of Jan and Bruce Rapkins, Jenny and Bob Coulson and Barry Lymbery won the prize for the best Day one result from sides who finished outside the top four. The Malua Bay side of Sally and Kaine Malone, Lisa Grice, Dave Dudman and John Lipton had the best Day 2 result and shared in the prize money.

A big thanks to everyone who assisted in the running of the tournament especially the staff of Club Tuross – the greenkeepers, bar staff and administration who were very supportive.
