Tuross burnout results in fine, disqualification forfeiting car to the crown

Friday 14 August 2020 – Moruya Local Court An 18 year old man from Tuross Head has been convicted of two counts of Prolong, sustain loss of traction (aggravated burnout). The provisional licence holder was fined and disqualified from holding a licence for twelve months. In addition, he was ordered to forfeit his vehicle to the crown. On 5 May 2020, following complaints received from members of the public, police attached to South Coast Highway Patrol, Batemans Bay commenced an investigation into the alleged ‘Burnout’ offences in the vicinity of Kyla Park, Tuross Head. Several statements were obtained along with physical evidence. On 9 May 2020, the 18 year old male was interviewed by police. He was issued with a court attendance notice and had his driving licence suspended on the spot until such time as the matter was finalised in court. South Coast Highway Patrol Supervisor, Sergeant Duncombe, advises that Batemans Bay Highway Patrol have commenced operation ‘Street Sweeper’, whereby adverse driver behaviour similar to this incident is being targeted. In conjunction with assistance from the community, police have further charges before the court in relation to other incidents of unacceptable driving on the local road network. “Police will not tolerate this type of driving behaviour. As can been seen from the court result, vehicles can be seized and forfeited to the Crown. Significant fines and driving disqualifications can also be imposed. Think of the consequences that these actions may impose on the safety of all road users” Sgt Duncombe said. “I continue to urge the community to report to the Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers adverse driving behaviour such as burnouts or drifting. All assistance such as CCTV, video footage or images on social media can and will be used as part of the evidence to support charges before the court.” To report adverse driving behaviour, the South Coast Highway Patrol Batemans Bay can be contacted on 44720099.
