Tuross Bunnies hop to Sydney for finals of Summer League

You might have thought that these three ladies, the “ Tuross Bunnies” were mixed up about the date for Easter in 2020, but not so. They played in the new Womens Bowls NSW competition called “The Summer League.” It was introduced in 2019 to encourage good competition for players, especially working women who can only play in “out of hours “ eg evenings or the weekend.

However several teams, from the Far South Coast District who play regularly and just love their bowls, entered this competition which ran from October to December. Teams from Malua Bay, Bermagui, Tomakin and two Tuross sides battled it out to make it to the finals.

The “Tuross Bunnies”namely Irene Macdonald, Doreen Monks and Fran O’Connell were victorious and will now play off at Blacktown Workers Club on Saturday 29th February and Sunday, 1st March.

The team makeup could only have one Grade 1 player, in this case, Irene and two other players of varying ability in order to give a fairer chance to newer players to compete in this initiative.

The game is a two bowls triples format, played over 15 ends, which should be a fast and very exciting game.

We wish our ladies much success playing at the State level against teams from all around the State. So hop to it Bunnies and fill your baskets with the trophies, but more importantly have fun!
