Truck driver dies: Crash on the Kings highway west of Nelligen

A man has died following a single vehicle crash in the state’s south today.

About 6.50am (Tuesday 15 March 2022), emergency services were called to the Kings Highway, Nelligen, following reports a truck had crashed.

Initial inquiries suggest the tipper truck was travelling west when it veered off the road and struck a steel railing before flipping and hitting a tree, about 300m east of Old Bolaro Road.

The driver – a man believed to be aged in his 30s – was trapped before being released, but despite efforts, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, police urge witnesses – including motorists with dashcam footage – to come forward and call Batemans Bay Police on 4472 0099 or Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.

While the Kings Highway has been re-opened, a contra flow has been put in place and motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
