Transport for NSW 20-year plan

The Transport for NSW 20-year plan has identified planning for two lanes each way on the Princes Highway from Burrill Lake to Batemans Bay in the Short term with construction to be in the Medium Term along with Safety improvements and more over taking lanes from Batemans Bay to Narooma in the Medium term. In their plan they also identify Moruya bypass as being in the Short Term along with planning new bridges along the whole corridor to enable heavy vehicle and freight access As it is a twenty year plan one might consider Short Term to be 2020 to 2026, 2027 to 2033 and 2033 to 2040

Transport for NSW Regional Director South, Sam Knight said the Draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Transport Plan outlines how Transport for NSW will respond to changes in land use, population and travel demand across the region.

“This plan outlines a transport vision for this region and addresses the key trends that will need a transport-related response into the future,” Ms Knight said.

“These include a greater focus on active and public transport, safety, and efficiency of road and rail freight movements.

“There is also a greater focus on and a commitment to supporting the region in the transition towards a low emissions future.”

The plan has been developed in concert with the draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Plan 2041 – developed by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment – as well as the newly-released Princes Highway 2040 Roadmap.

Ms Knight said the transport vision provides a blueprint for future regional travel.

“This plan will be achieved through the implementation of 20 key objectives categorised under six broad themes – Connected, Safe, Liveable, Adaptive, Productive and Resilient – and their supporting initiatives,” Ms Knight said.

“While some initiatives are already in the delivery or planning phases, new initiatives will be staged over the coming decades.”

The community will be consulted as each of the individual initiatives is progressed.

The plan will be open for community consultation until 29 January 2021.
