The sun shone brightly on Tuross Head Women’s Bowls 2022 Classic Pairs

Writer: The BeagleThe Beagle

The Tuross Head women held their annual “Ladies Classic Pairs Tournament” over two and a half days last weekend. The event was not able to be held last year due to the Covid disruptions. It was wonderful to see the greens awash with colour from the variety of uniforms of the many clubs who entered. There were 28 teams. Bowlers came from as far North as Warilla, as far South as Tura Beach and Merimbula, West from Queanbeyan and several from our local District; Malua Bay, Narooma and Dalmeny and 4 of our Tuross bowlers.

It was a thrilling, tightly fought contest with the eventual winners being a combination team of our local “star” bowler Denise Lidbury who partnered with Narooma’s Clare Cork. They won all of their five games, so the countback went on “ends won” and the margin was only one end the difference, 56 to 55.

Second place went to Christine McGarity and Alison Hof from Merimbula.

Third place getters, who were also five game winners, were a combination team of our own Tuross players, Irene Macdonald / Rose Farrington who partnered with Lynn Davidson from Tura Beach.

In fourth place was a team from Warilla: Julia Morgan and Leonie Burnet, fifth place was a Queanbeyan team of Audrey Pritchard and Linda Copley and sixth place went to Pam Takanen and Tina Croker from Merimbula. All were presented with their prize money after enjoying a lovely roast lunch provided by the club kitchen. Congratulations to all participants who visited Tuross Head, enjoyed their bowls and the friendship of the bowling fraternity.

Our thanks must go to our Match committee, led so capably by Dianne Challice, who worked so hard both organising this event and working so diligently, over the weekend to make it such a successful tournament. Many other committee members gave their time selling raffles, preparing delicious morning teas, serving lunches and more.

We are grateful for the wonderful preparation of the Greens by Tim Watson and his staff. Many players commented again on the standard of our greens.

Thankyou to all our sponsors particularly Travel Team Batemans Bay, who have supported this event for many years, as well as Tuross Beach Holiday Park who generously donated the main raffle.

Thankyou the Tuross Head Country Club management, the bistro and all staff who assisted in so many ways to ensure the success of the event.

We look forward to holding this event again in 2023.

Winners of the Classic Pairs- Clare Cork ( Narooma ) and Denise Lidbury ( Tuross Head )
