The Drowsy Chaperone – Opening this Friday!

Bay Theatre Players are thrilled to announce their first major production for 2021, The Drowsy Chaperone, opens this Friday! The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical comedy of the 1920’s, full of mishap, mayhem and mistaken identities that will keep you laughing to the very end.

The Drowsy Chaperone follows a reclusive Broadway fanatic, known as The Man in The Chair, seeking to solve his “non-specific sadness” through listening to his favourite 1920’s Broadway musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. As he listens, his humble New York apartment is transformed into a 1920’s Broadway stage, where the characters come to life in front of our eyes.

We then follow the crazy and fun-filled antics of the Broadway characters, from showgirls to gangsters to wealthy divas, in a tale full of music, love and mistaken identity.

One of the Bay Theatre Players most experienced members, Candy Burgess, is the Director of The Drowsy Chaperone. Candy has been involved in Bay Theatre Players for 30 years, as a director, actor and backstage. Candy and her husband Matthew saw this fabulous show in NYC a few years ago and she has wanted to bring this fun, colourful and witty show to the Bay Players stage ever since.
