THE BURNING BAY POEM BY JIM HUGHES
Jim Hughes from Catalina in the Eurobodalla had his home destroyed by bushfires in January 2020.
Days after the devastation he took pen to paper and wrote this poem about his experience of what happened on New Year's Eve, 2019.
ABC South East NSW reporter Daniel Doody spoke with Jim Hughes, who featured on the ABC South East Saturday breakfast program this morning (08/02/20).
Here is a snippet of the poem... you can listen to the entire poem as Jim recites it on radio by following this link.

The Burning Bay
Where fires are burning
For over a month and a day
I live on the coast,
In sunny Batemans Bay
It’s still going on
With no end in sight
There’s no other choice
But to stand up and fight
I’ve had my bloody turn
It came on in a hurry
We did the best we could
There was no time to worry.
It was Roger, Dad and Me
There was Chriso and Mark
Everyone else had left
before the first spark....
