Moruya River.
Thankfully we didn’t get the predicted rains last weekend, this has allowed the river another week to clear up. The incoming tide is still your best option at fishing cleaner, warmer waters. The warm northerly currents that are pushing down the coast, are helping to flush the rivers of the cold dirty waters. With the offshore temperatures starting to hit 20 degrees, the rivers are in turn also warming up.
We can expect the bream, flathead and hopefully the whiting activity to start to increase.
There have been good reports as of yesterday, of good numbers of trevally and flathead being caught off of the town boat ramp next to the local pool. Baits of mullet fillet and prawns have been working nicely to date. We can expect to also find the flathead, bream and Trevally under the town bridge working the drop offs and the shallows in the middle of the river.
Quarry wharf down to the river mouth is also seeing an increase in fish activity, with reports of flathead, tailor, bream and salmon all coming to light over the past few days.
The last half of the incoming tide, seems to offering the best chance of finding a fish or two.
Tuross River.
The lower sections of the Tuross river are cleaning up quickly now that the flood flows further upstream have abated. There have been good catches in the cleaner warmer waters of flathead, bream, mulloway and tailor all in the lower half of the system. This will continue to improve throughout the system as we see the influx of warm clean waters back into the system.
Baits of all types, as well as lures have all been working on the local fish populations. Get out and enjoy what is shaping up to be a reasonable weekend, weather wise.
Early morning sessions will be the best times as the winds are expected to increase throughout the day.
Rock and Beach.
Salmon have been readily available off most beaches this week, with both baits and lures accounting for plenty of fish. No particular beaches any better than another, just get out and explore the options. As the warm currents increase the water temperatures, the bream and whiting will start to become a more consistent catch off the local beaches. I prefer to search the areas of mixed ground, in the beach/headland corners for a few of these fish. Beach worms and nippers both being the best baits for a feed of whiting or bream.
Moruya breakwall is always worth a look, with plenty of option on the beach side.
Offshore.
The tuna run continues for the game crews as the water temps continue to rise. There have also been reasonable catches of snapper and flathead in and around the local reefs. Start looking in 30-40m of water for a chance at finding a tasty feed.
As the water temps increase,the baitfish will be starting to increase over the reefs, both natural and man made. This in turn should also attract the predators.
Preparations for the Christmas season is continuing in store with new stock arriving by the pallet load of a regular basis. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement over the next few weeks, as more new stock hits the shelves.
