Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a suspicious vehicle fire south of Batemans Bay earlier today.
About 1pm (Monday 16 September 2019) emergency services were alerted to a fire on Maulbrooks Road, Jeremadra.
The blaze, which started as a vehicle fire, spread to surrounding bushland and was extinguished by officers from Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire.
South Coast Police District Inspector Angela Burnell said police are investigating several lines of inquiry.
"We are certainly looking at the possibility that this vehicle was deliberately lit and urge anyone with any information to contact Batemans Bay Police or Crime Stoppers," Inspector Burnell said.
“We’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white Land Cruiser in the area around 12pm as we believe the driver may be able to assist police with inquiries.
"Thankfully the weather was on our side today, otherwise this could have been a lot worse."
Police inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
