Spring Sounds : Sept 10th in Moruya

Spring Sounds features Alice Ansara, well-known local performer and podcaster, dynamic narrative poems from Julie Janson, a Burruberongal woman of Darug Nation, and topical/ satirical/ political fun from Braidwood-based poet and comic performer Harry Laing. The musicians are acclaimed local guitar duo, Twice Shy, Phillip Penfold and Paul Baker. There’ll also be an open-mike.

Harry Laing is a poet, comic performer and children’s author. His third poetry collection 'unsettled' was published in 2021 by Walleah Press. A third collection of poetry for children 'RapperBee' also came out in 2021 with Ford Street. Harry’s poetry performances are full of laughs and language play; he is MC for the PoetryAlive@Stanley Street Gallery poetry readings (Sydney) and together with Nicola Bowery, runs the PoetryAlive poetry weekends. He regularly appears as a guest author in schools. Harry lives near Braidwood, NSW.


Julie Janson's career as a playwright began when she wrote and directed plays in remote Australian Northern Territory Aboriginal communities. She is now a novelist and award-winning poet. Julie is a Burruberongal woman of Darug Aboriginal Nation. She is co-recipient of the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Poetry Prize, 2016 and winner of the Judith Wright Poetry Prize, 2019. Her novels include, The Crocodile Hotel, Cyclops Press 2015 and The Light Horse Ghost, Nibago 2018. Julie has written and produced plays, including two at Belvoir St Theatre – Black Mary and Gunjies and Two Plays, published by Aboriginal Studies Press 1996.

Alice Ansara has been an actor across film, TV, theatre and radio for most of her life with work ranging from AFI best actress nominated film roles to being part of the Actor’s Ensemble at the Sydney Theatre Company. It was at the STC that Alice began working in dramaturgy and script development. Alice has also written poetry, co-founded Bass Coast Poetry Slams and was Victorian finalist in the Australian National Poetry Slam. Since moving to the Far South Coast of NSW, Alice has begun writing and producing radio documentaries and podcast series including the award winning ‘The CWA and the F-Word’ and ‘From the Embers’ about the Great Fires of 2019/2020.

Twice Shy performs standout music from the 20th century: jazz, latin and rock… with panache.
