South Coast Rugby Clubs combine 2023

Local Rugby Union Clubs Batemans Bay “Boars” & Broulee “Dolphins” senior men’s teams have agreed to combine for season 2023.

South Coast Rugby Union Executive had been making attempts to relaunch a local competition for around 5 to 6 teams with interest falling short of desired team numbers this season. Although not giving up, it was recognised that the Zone needed to keep interest in the area.

Braidwood have confirmed they will stand alone this season as reformed Club with good numbers, Batemans Bay was struggling for a big enough squad, Broulee had a good interest but well short of what is needed, Milton went close but are one season short and little interest could be mustered from the Bega Shire towns. With all this in back of mind it was decided that the Boars & Dolphins would combine for this season with an aim to participate under their own banner 2024.

Both Clubs were inaugural members of Far South Coast Rugby Union when the local competition commenced 1981. They have been fierce rivals over the years with both teams providing that “little bit extra” when they meet. Both Clubs have enjoyed plenty of success over the years in both 1st & 2nd grade but the time was right to combine for a season pending the return of a regular local stand alone competition on the South Coast.

A lot of work has been going on in the background including a new look Jersey to reflect both clubs colours, agreement around training and match days plus Coaching staff. Appointments will shortly be announced with a lot of excitement around what is looking like a strong squad. The new team will simply be known as “Batemans Bay Broulee Rugby”

The competition first round commences Saturday 15th April with Batemans Bay Broulee to host Bungendore Mudchooks at Hanging Rock Oval, Batemans Bay. An Under 18’s game will be played at 1.00pm followed by seniors men’s at 2.30.
