SHASA's first EV Expo a big success

SHASA held the South Coast's first EV Expo at Corrigan's Beach, Batehaven, on Saturday 1 October. The Expo brought together a number of vendors and local EV owners to give residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about electric vehicles – cars, scooters, and bikes as well as lawn mowers and outboard motors. Between 800 and 1000 people attended the event. The locally owned EV's on display included the more affordable MG SUV through to the Porche Taycan. The Canberra Tesla club came along with a range of Tesla models. There were several Nissan Leafs and the less often seen Jaguar I-Pace, Volvo XC 40 Recharge SUV, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The SHASA President, Kathryn Maxwel said "It was impressive to see more than 20 electric vehicles all in the one location. The vehicle owners were very busy through out the day, answering questions about what is was like to own and run an electric vehicle in the Eurobodalla. "Fiona Phillips, MP for Gilmore, opened the event and outlined the commitment by the Federal Government to implement a range of measures to increase the uptake of electric vehicles. Dr Michael Holland, MP for Bega, highlighted the health and well being benefits of electric vehicles. The SHASA President highlighted the efforts SHASA has been making to increase the uptake of electric vehicles in the Eurbodalla. Ms Maxwell said “purchasing an electric vehicle will make the biggest reduction in your greenhouse gas emissions. SHASA had embraced Saul Griffith's vision to reach net zero emissions by eliminating household use of fossil fuels and electrifying everything”. Dozens of test drives were done in the SHASA Nissan Leaf and other cars with many drivers expressing amazement at how nice the cars were to drive. People came from as far away as Bega, the Shoalhaven and Canberra to attend the Expo. SHASA also launched its Electric Vehicle Member Offer in partnership with the Good Car Company. The Good Car Company will provide SHASA members, supporters and locals with information and access to new and second hand electric vehicles with an operating range of at least 250km at affordable E Bulk Buy prices.
