Shane Wehner of Broulee has won the Nixon Base Tide Pro-formance Award and an Australian Title after a dominant performance in the Over 40’s Men’s final at Duranbah Beach, officially known as Flagstaff Beach, which many South Coast locals may know as the northernmost beach in New South Wales.
Shane was among the best contesting the Shortboard Age Division crowns at last weekend's 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships
The former world tour competitor built momentum through the event and hit his straps in the big dance, nailing an 18.30 point total with Jake Spooner next best with a 13.90 points.
Elated with the win, Shane told the Surfing Australia team “I really appreciate this moment, it’s been about fifteen years since I have won any kind of surfing event so it’s really nice. After sitting out at middle rock at Hasting’s in my first round heat and not registering a score to now winning the thing, it’s awesome” .
