The Federal member for Eden Monaro, Kristy McBain is encouraging her community to get behind a formal petition she has raised to support her advocacy working with all levels of Government to ensure that regional communities have easy access to their local medical practitioner.
The Federal member says:
"This week we marked World Family Doctor Day.
"Throughout the bushfires and the pandemic, all of our local healthcare professionals have gone above and beyond to support us.
"But our local doctors are under a huge strain to support our regional communities.
"In many cases, the only thing keeping local clinics running is the dedication and community spirit of doctors, nurses and staff.
"The Morrison Government carries the responsibility for supporting Australia’s general practice network and it needs to ensure that people in regional Australia continue to have access to their local medical practitioner.
"I will continue to work with all levels of Government to ensure that our regional communities have easy access to their local medical practitioner.
"You can support my advocacy by adding your name to my regional health petition HERE:

A parliamentary petition is also demanding a reduction in the clinical assessment of IMGs before they are allowed to work under supervision as GPs. With claims that some are waiting up to a year to start jobs because of the time it takes to arrange their mandatory PESCI interviews, those behind the campaign are calling for the assessment to be scrapped for certain candidates. Petition calls for measures to ensure adequate GP numbers for Rural and Regional practices
