The Beagle Editor,
Save 3 minutes or a Save a Life? Which would you choose?
I think you’d agree that the life of a loved one or friend is worth more than 3 minutes of your time. But here’s the kicker Transport for NSW doesn’t agree with us.
Let me explain why.
One Hospital Eurobodalla has brought to our attention that the new regional hospital is seriously under-funded to the tune of about $60 million maybe more, assuming you’d like to have your baby delivered safely or receive radiation treatment for cancer. Stay with me because it gets worse.
You see way back in the day (6th March 2019) Gladys announced that she’d like to build a Bypass for Moruya (hmm … I can sniff an election coming - the 2019 New South Wales state election was held on Saturday 23 March 2019 ).
A bypass - what a lovely surprise! Great idea I think you’d agree. Who wants to be stuck in traffic jams at Moruya bridge? I don’t.
However, we’re not getting what we were promised.
Transport for NSW has grand plans for Moruya. Hold your breath in starry-eyed wonder, because Transport for NSW haven’t been asleep at the wheel for the last 2 ½ years (although you’d be excused for thinking they had). Be assured they haven’t.
In fact, they’ve gone the extra mile (oops kilometre) to ensure we get a Bypass exceeding our most extravagant expectations. They’ve taken our humble (3.5km Bypass) to the lofty heights of becoming one of the seven engineering wonders of the world.
Please excuse the hyperbole. The Bypass now starts north of Shelley Rd (hmm …..I don’t remember Shelley Rd, being part of the original brief) and finishes at Mountain View Rd.
The new Orange route is a little over 8 kms and will cost over $900 million, and perhaps reach $1billion. (Wow that’s a lot of money for a road, our pollies sure know how to waste, oops I meant spend money)
The original route (starting at Larrys Mountain Rd and finishing just behind the TAFE) is 3 kms shorter. And at $154 million per km that’s a $462 million saving.
I think I saw a smile cross your face.
You’re thinking of the lives that could be saved with this amount of money. Gladys could even shout everyone in Moruya a beer with the spare change.
You can help us save Moruya, from Transport for NSW’s Orange corridor of Mass Destruction, by signing the petition in the link below.
The shorter corridor saves money, saves lives and goes straight past the door of the new regional hospital. The Orange corridor does not. Please sign the petition so that we can have the hospital we deserve and not a road we can’t afford.
