Rugby Union - Kiama 7's

Batemans Bay “Boars” Rugby entered a women’s team into the weekends Kiama 7’s carnival with huge success. The team performed above expectations to have a narrow loss in the final of the Country Women’s pool.

A squad of 14 ladies travelled to play. They combined well from the initial kick off with some determined defense from everyone to win 2 of their pool games plus a narrow loss after leading 10 -0. The team made it to the Country Women’s final with plenty of confidence and had their eye firmly on winning and grabbing the prize $2,500. The girls played Albury Steamers n the final with this team having similar results on the day.

It was a thriller from start to finish. The ladies from both sides gave it everything on a muddy slow field with the final score 10 – 10 with both teams scoring 2 uncoverted tries each. However, under the rules of the competition it stated that in the event of a draw the team that scored the first try would be declared the winner.

Up until 4 weeks ago Batemans Bay did not even have a women’s team but a keen recruitment drive and training twice a week with the senior men’s Boars teams. There are now plans to enter a team in the South Coast Monaro Women’s Rugby competition. This is a competition of 10-a-side games played on a home and away basis. Games will be aligned to the Boars men’s competition with 8 teams now confirmed as entered.

Training will continue every Tuesday & Thursday from 6.00pm and any new ladies are most welcome to join in.
