River of Art, the south coast’s annual celebration of creative and performing arts, is changing seasons.
From 2020, it will be held in Spring kicking off next year on September 18. For 10 days, the River will flow from Durras to Bermagui with its vivid cascade of art.
The festival is a community-led initiative. Co-chaired by Di Jay and Vicki Lascelles, it is run by volunteers with support from local businesses, the Eurobodalla Shire Council and the NSW Government. Its aim is to present and promote local and visiting artists across all art forms.
“Since its inception 14 years ago, River of Art has been held in May. During that time, the festival has grown ever more popular – both with contributing artists and visitors,” said co-chair Di Jay.
“We see the shift from Autumn to Spring as a way of making it even more popular by capturing the springtime visitors to our beautiful coast.”
“We'll also be working to shape a festival program that takes advantage of the warmer Spring weather and longer days,” Vicki Lascelles, also co-chair, explained.
“We are planning some new and exciting additions to the program – so watch this space. Of course, the usual popular events such as the Open Studios, the festival art prize, the photography and woodwork exhibitions, poetry readings and choral recitals will still be on the program,” she said
“And the box-office sellout burlesque show will be staged again in all its dazzle and extravagance,” Di added.
With a shift from May to September next year, release of the 2020 festival program is scheduled for early August. But regular updates on how the festival is coming together will be posted on the website www.riverofart.com.au or on Facebook.
