It was with a mix of both pleasure and concern that I read Neil Mumme’s letter to you concerning an aspect of the recruitment process for our new general manager. A pleasure because, while Neil had a knack for outraging those who dared to question the workings of council, he was very much a larger-than-life mayor, with a first-class sense of humour. He was entertaining. And a concern because he knows not of what he speaks, on this particular matter, despite having held the reins for a few years.
The Office of Local Government guidelines on the GM recruitment process are clear and as the report states, they will be followed. And, as the mayoral report states, all councillors will be involved in the second round of interviews.
But, good to hear from you Neil.
