Rally receives Premier recognition

Last week's visit to region by the Premier Gladys Berejiklian saw a scheduled stop at Rally For Recovery in Tomakin. For those not familiar with Rally a passing motorist or occasional visitor might imagine that it is a merely a low key community initiative to rehome pre-loved household items. But for those aware of the background and the incredible work Rally for Recovery does, it is so much more. Their reputation and the ongoing support they provide to the community was more than enough to bering the Premier to their doorstep to see first hand the enterprise and to meet the volunteers who have achieved so much. Established in 2010, based in the old Tomakin Community Centre, Rally for Recovery has raised $2,360,000 to date. The monies raised have been donated to funding research into childhood cancers in conjunction with The Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation. The Premier toured the facility and saw firsthand the need for Rally to extend their operation with a new building planned. Presently there are homewares stored under tarps and makeshift shelters. The land behind the present Rally for Recovery facility is owned by the Crown and it is hoped that the Member for Bega and the Premier might support the group being able to expand onto that land with a peppercorn rent.

Rally for Recovery is located on Ainslie Parade, Tomakin and opens Wednesday to Saturday 9am to 12 noon. You can contact the group on 0406 363 166 or email rallyshedtomakin@gmail.com Be sure to follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Rally-for-Recovery-Tomakin-241815062946381
