Pssst... wanna buy a used newspaper?

The question wandering around the circles of Independent news sources such as The Beagle is "Will ACM put the Bay Post up for sale next?" The Bay Post has, in recent years, fallen into insignificance, having first decided to go behind a pay wall on its website and then diminish from a twice weekly edition to once weekly on a Wednesday, presenting generally cloned articles gleaned for across the South East from as far afield as Eden and Berry. Both the ACM Batemans Bay and Narooma offices were closed and staff were reduced with ACM declaring it was losing revenue due to the popularity of Social Media that resulted in its loss of advertising revenue. Pleading with the Federal Government ACM received $10.3 million to be directed to supporting regional news. This money may have been spent elsewhere however, there is no evidence of any being spent locally. Since the loss of its editors Stan Gorton (Narooma News) and Kerrie O'Conner (Bay Post) and the unexplained disappearance during the initial months of Covid of the Moruya News the role that these once vibrant newspapers has diminished to such an extent that it is anticipated that they too will end up being for sale "to someone who will continue with the tradition of providing great content to the community".
