Projected costs to community of Mackay Park are being kept secret by Council

The Beagle Editor, In light of Council's decision to proceed with awarding a contract to the preferred tenderer of the new $70 million Mackay Park Centre I have written this letter to: The General Manager and all Councillors Eurobodalla Shire Council

Dear all

It’s understood the council has agreed to forge ahead and develop a new Aquatic and Performing Arts Centre including  other public amenities at Mackay Park Batemans Bay.

It’s being claimed publicly that Council has agreed to a budget of $70 Million plus a 12.5 % contingency allowance. If the claimed 12.5 % contingency is added to the $ 70 million claimed budget allowance, does that mean another $8.75 million is added to the $ 70 million budget allowance making it $ 78.75 million of rate and taxpayers money ? Is what Council has agreed to so far to move forward and develop to new publicly owned asset ? If that isn’t what’s been resolved by Council as far as funding to begin the project is concerned, what has been resolved by council to date regarding financing the project?

Once it’s finished and up and running, is it true that depreciation, maintenance, administration and operating costs to be funded by the public will be in excess of $3 million annually ? If that’s not correct what is the annual estimated costs as is being asked ?

yours sincerely

Allan Brown

Because the projected running costs = Overheads + Maintenance - turnstile incomes the community is not being told how much the centre will cost because Projected Income based on their Business Case is "Commercial in Confidence". As such the community is left in the dark

NOTE: Comments were TRIALED - in the end it failed as humans will be humans and it turned into a pile of merde; only contributed to by just a handful who did little to add to the conversation of the issue at hand. Anyone who would like to contribute an opinion are encouraged to send in a Letter to the Editor where it might be considered for publication
