Overnight fire at Batehaven

Saturday 20th July 10:33pm

P384 called to unit fire Batehaven to assist RP217.

On arrival crews were faced with a 2 unit complex well alight with crews from station 217 fighting the fire defensively.

Crews from P384 deployed lines to assist with defensive fire fighting until it was safe enough for crews to enter and fight from internally. Once the fire was under control crews started to hit hot spots and using tools pulled apart the area to completely extinguish.

During this process asbestos was found to be all through the structure.

Crews completely extinguished all hot spots and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure no hot spots were detected.

All crews decontaminated before bagging their gear for thorough cleaning.

The site was handed to police by 1:30am.

One unit was completely destroyed and the other had lots of damage, however no one was injured.

Also in attendance were crews from RFS Batemans Bay and Surf Beach, NSW Police, NSW ambulance, Essential Energy.

Thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 398 Narooma for standing by in Moruya for fire coverage whilst we were busy.
