Our female Mayoral and Councillor candidates stepping up

The upcoming Eurobodalla Council elections will be strongly contested by women. Strong women. Women with firm views, vision and intentions to serve. Standing for Mayor are Karyn Starmer of Moruya and Alison Worthington. Karyn is on the Mayne Team and Alison is on the Green's ticket.

Karyn Starmer: An ex-financial markets trader, Karyn is now a journalist working for Region Media, publishers of About Regional and The RiotACT, and ABC Radio. Committed to her local community, Karyn has held positions in many local school, club and community organisations including Moruya SLSC, Broulee Dolphins RUFC, South Coast Anglican Schools Board, Mirrabooka Riding Club and the Moruya Jazz Festival. Karyn Starmer says of her candidacy "Change is upon us. If we don’t act now to shift the way our Eurobodalla Shire Council plans for growth, protects our Shire’s natural beauty and our relaxed way of life, we’ll end up as another sprawling, generic, urban environment.

"I’m running for Mayor because I love where we live. I’m an ex-markets trader, now a journalist. I’m highly analytical and organised, trained to ask hard questions, a strong communicator and leader. I care deeply about our communities, so I’ll serve you with integrity, transparency and remain free from outside influence. I’ll restore balance in the Chamber, so your Councillors drive the agenda. "As your Mayor, I’ll earn – and value – your trust. I’m running for Mayor of Eurobodalla because I love where we live. We need a more proactive, transparent and creative Council that strategically plans for growth, protects our Shire’s natural beauty and safeguards our relaxed way of life. If we don’t act now, we’ll end up as another sprawling, generic, urban environment."

Alison Worthington, running as a Mayoral Candidate for the Greens says "I’m running for Council because I want to work with other Councillors to restore transparency to, and rebuild trust in Council processes. The current Council has been found wanting when it comes to meaningful consultation with the community, transparency in process and accountability. I'm committed to increasing community participation in council decision making.

"I care deeply about grassroots democracy, social justice and meaningful action on climate.

I want to know what you expect from Council. As a Councillor, I will be accessible, active and accountable to you"
