On-line petition to have Council withhold lease to the Moruya Rodeo is gaining traction as the community divides with a counter petition to support the continuation of the annual event.
The Change.org petition states:
Moruya is a scenic town on the far south coast of NSW. The local Rodeo Association has applied to Eurobodalla Shire Council for a five-year renewal of its licence.
Rodeos are opposed by every animal welfare organisation, because they cause fear, distress and potential serious injury to animals. They are banned in the ACT, the UK and several parts of the Europe and the United States. They are a cruel hangover from the days when tormenting animals was regarded as entertainment.
Rodeos can only operate by a special exemption from the NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979.
Eurobodalla Shire Council is seeking submissions on the future of the rodeo until 31 January 2023. You can help by putting in a submission opposing the rodeo
(https://www.esc.nsw.gov.au/.../public-notice-licence-for...) or by signing and sharing this petition, or both.
Please help an animal today. Thank you.
