NOTICE: Extinction Rebellion Protest Batemans Bay Sat 19th Oct

The Batemans Bay Extinction Rebellion Protest will be held 12pm – 1pm, Saturday the 19th of October, starting at the shorefront between Starfish Deli and Innes Boat Shed and ending on the Riverside Plaza intersection, corner of North Street and Perry Street. "The Blue Line across this intersection signifies the conservative scientific estimations of where sea level rise WILL reach by 2100."

Extinction Rebellion Batemans Bay organisers say "We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. Life on Earth is in crisis: Scientists agree we have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction of our own making." “THE SEAS ARE RISING AND SO ARE WE!”

"You thought Extinction Rebellion was only for major cities, WRONG! Extinction Rebellion includes groups of concerned locals bringing the front line of climate change to your doorstep, before sea level rise does."

Organisers told The Beagle "When sea level rise reaches .74m the local community in Batemans Bay will suffer the following: flooding, dramatic loss of land mass, displacement, storm surges, economic ruin, loss of food security, access to clean water, significant sanitation issues, increased risk of infectious diseases and compromised access to effective health care.

"Extinction Rebellion has 3 demands:

1. The Government must tell the truth by declaring a Climate Emergency and working for rapid change.

2. The Government must act to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025.

3. The Government must install and respect a Citizen’s Assembly to oversee real action in line with the science."
