New Year Safety at Narooma Bar

Maritime NSW, Marine Rescue and Surf Lifesaving NSW have carried out a joint exercise at the Narooma Bar today, working together to keep the boating public safe. Radio communications were established between Marine Rescue and Maritime NSW to assist boats crossing the bar safely as a dense sea fog rolled in reducing visibility. Keeping a close eye on the vessels as they approached the bar Maritime positioned themselves to escort vessels entering the bar from the seaward side while other members of the exercise remained just inside the bar to warn boaters of the deteriorating conditions and recommending smaller vessels not to go out. It is all hands on deck this summer for our water based agencies with all, including the acting principal manager of Maritime South Region, coming together to bolster water safety at the busiest time of year for Narooma.

The pro-active joint exercise today showcased how important it is to prevent accidents before they occur. Joining in on the exercise the surf rescue PwC attended the Bar Beach and undertook shark sighting offshore, keeping swimmers and boating safe.
